Danam Nagender is an active politician in Telangana. He has spent three decades in the trenches of INC briefly shifting his alliance to TDP where he won as the MLA of Asifnagar. However, he resigned his post and revived his old alliance with INC under the leadership of Y Rajasekhar Reddy in 2004. He's won three consecutive elections in Asifnagar in 1994, 1999 and 2004. In 2009 he contested and won the assembly elections from Khairatabad constituency. However, he failed to retain the seat in the 2014 elections. In 2018, he once again abandoned them for TRS and won the Khairatabad assembly election.

While rendering his resignation to Congress, Danam Nagender accused Congress of ignoring the plight of Backward Classes. He wrote "In the recent times, I have tried my best to explain to the party high command both at the state and center, the changing political scenario in Telangana state with particular reference to the welfare of the backward class communities (BCs) which comprise more than 50% of the populace. All my appeals have fallen on deaf ears. He was inducted into the cabinet by Chief Minister YSR in 2009 as the Minister for Labour, Employment, Training & Factories, Industrial Training Institutes & Health in United Andhra Pradesh."

2018 : He quit INC and contested the assembly elections from Khairatabad constituency as TRS candidate. He defeated Chaitala Rama Reddy's bid to the seat by a margin of 28,402 votes.
 
2014 : He lost the assembly election to BJP's Chintala Rama Chandra Reddy by a margin of 20,846 votes.
